Ghent, Belgium | C.1817
Ghent University is one of the most prestigious academic institutions in Belgium. Founded in 1817, the school has multiple accolades, from teaching the world’s first professor of electrotechnology to hosting Albert Einstein for a talk on his theory of relativity. Recently, it has received ample attention for preparing to launch a course named “Literature (Taylor’s Version),” exploring how Taylor Swift’s songs resonate with themes found in iconic tales such as Romeo and Juliet, Jane Eyre, and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
One less-noteworthy attribute of this highly respected research university is its basketball club. With no coach, no uniforms, and no fan base to speak of (as yet), it is listed among the wide range of student clubs on offer at Ghent, sandwiched between its Dare to Dance Club and its Camera and Travel Club.
This should not deter any hopeful athletes from attending the impressive university. It will just be convenient if they’re a Swiftie, both on the court and in the classroom.
