Noank, Connecticut | C.1970
There are many places around New England to get delicious lobster rolls… but at the iconic Ford’s Lobster in Noank, Connecticut, you will find specialty lobster dishes like the famous Lobster Bomb: one half pound of fresh lobster topped with creamy lobster bisque, served in a buttered and grilled bread bowl! Much like the menu, the story behind Ford’s Lobster is pretty clawsome, too.
In the mid 1950s, Ford’s was a small, family-owned dock where fisherman could refuel their gas tanks and pick up some bait and tackle. In 1970, the owners added a retail lobster shack, which is still operating today. By 2010, though, owners Kris and Kerrie Nyman needed to find a way to keep business afloat. They put the last of their savings towards purchasing a hotdog cart to sell lobster rolls. This last-ditch effort was such a success that only two years later, a dining room was built and business was booming! Now, visitors and locals alike can sit on the patio, take in gorgeous waterfront views, and enjoy their lobster rolls. No reservations, though: it’s first come first surf.
