Despite being a lighthouse, unfortunately the story behind Renforth Lighthouse’s namesake is a tad dark. The lighthouse and former village of Renforth in New Brunswick, Canada was named after James Renforth, a British rower who died from heart failure in the middle of a match in the waters of the Kennebecasis River in 1870. Today, though, the lighthouse is a great place for visitors to take in the breathtaking views of the river. Ah, perhaps “breathtaking” isn’t the best adjective given its history…
