Alpe di Siusi

Welcome to the highest and largest alpine plateau in Europe! The Alpe de Siusi offers more than just astonishing views of the Dolomites mountain range: while humans have occupied and explored the region for thousands of years, the earliest documented record of Alpe de Siusi dates back to 1600.

This enchanting pocket of land is situated between the Val Gardena valley to the north and the Schlern mountain to the southeast. The Schlern, with its vast plateau and towering peaks, is considered one of the most widely recognized symbols of the Dolomites.

Save for visiting skiers and hikers, the area has remained a fairly remote area celebrated for its rich flora and fauna. Its wide ranging alpine meadows are actively used for pastures and divided into many plots for farm animals to graze. Since the 17th century, the nearby community of Val Gardena has been a center for woodcarving, providing hand carved statues and altar pieces for Catholic churches. When carved wooden toys became popular in the early 20th century, the small valley became known as the “Capital of Toyland.”

With mountains on its horizon, bountiful fields of pasture, and local craftsmanship that dates back hundreds of years, the Alpe de Siusi is a well of natural wonders. Today, the region is known for its sports and recreation, and welcomes hundreds of skiers, hikers, mountain bikers, and golfers each year. Truly a haven for the outdoor enthusiast, the Alpe de Siusi is as beautiful as it is breathtaking.
