Warren, Rhode Island | C.2022
arc{hive} book + snackery opened in Warren, Rhode Island, as the kind of hybrid space that shouldn’t work but does: a used bookstore stocked with hand-selected rare and odd titles, a cocktail bar that takes drinks seriously, and a snack menu designed for grazing between chapters. The owners curate the shelves with the same attention they give to the Negronis, pulling books from estate sales, private collections, and forgotten corners of New England’s publishing history. You’ll find mid-century design monographs next to obscure poetry chapbooks next to dog-eared crime novels in three languages. The atmosphere is lounge, not library. Dim lighting, low seating, no pressure to buy or leave. Order a cocktail, settle into a velvet chair, and flip through a 1970s cookbook about Portuguese cuisine. Warren, a town of 11,000 on Narragansett Bay, now has a place where lingering is the point.
