Carriage House

Originally built in 1860 as the barn for the Baker-Merchant-DeWolf House, this Baker Street building was nearly demolished in 1990 when a nearby church sought to clear the lot for parking. It was rescued and relocated, and today serves as headquarters for one of Warren’s most enduring institutions.

The Warren Federal Blues were chartered in 1798 and originally served as marines policing navy seamen aboard the USS General Greene, a vessel commanded by Christopher Raymond Perry, father of naval hero Oliver Hazard Perry. Revived in 1976 as part of the American Bicentennial celebrations, the unit shifted from military service to community heritage, eventually settling into this restored carriage house with support from the Warren Preservation Society. They now operate a historic armory museum and appear at parades and special events, firing period muskets and cannons in honor of the town’s long history.
