Paris, France
Just down from the Place du Tertre in Montmartre is everything you could want out of a classic Parisian café. Le Consulat is one of the oldest establishments in the area and is always abuzz with those seeking coffee, French wines, or butter-laden cuisine.
Though often referred to as Paris’s cutest café, its legacy extends beyond its adorability. Its tables, usually filled within an hour of opening, spill out onto the surrounding cobblestone streets—and were once shared by some of our most beloved creators.
For centuries, Parisian cafés have been breeding grounds for artistic energy and intellectual thought. Le Consulat has been such a haunt, counting among its patrons the likes of Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Monet in the nineteenth century; Picasso and Hemingway in the twentieth. These legends flocked to Montmartre at various stages, and most had flats nearby.
You don’t need to take a seat at one of those tables to be able to imagine it. But if you’re merely driving by to soak up Le Consulat’s delectable scene, it’s highly recommended that you do so in a convertible—lest you miss out on the quintessential sounds of aggressive accordion players. Top down.
