When most hotels renovate, they chase contemporary minimalism. Hesperia Mallorca did the opposite. They spent part of a €20 million investment deliberately time traveling backward to the Mediterranean’s groovy heyday. The 2026 redesign channels 1960s to 70s island summers with such commitment that even the custom corporate scent features orange notes, a nod to Sóller Valley’s citrus groves. Staff uniforms sport retro details in orange tones referencing the island’s agricultural past. It’s reverse nostalgia as business strategy, making guests feel they’ve stumbled into their grandparents’ vacation photos.

The reopening itself doubled down on the bit rather than undercutting it. The hotel marked its relaunch with a poolside party built entirely around the theme, complete with a band covering Spanish hits from the era and a DJ spinning vinyl until the night handed itself over to more contemporary sounds. Breakfast now runs on ensaimadas and sobrasada rather than anything a minimalist boutique hotel would recognize as continental. The whole exercise sits inside a wider €20 million rebrand across the Hesperia chain, though Mallorca is the only property so far willing to bet its entire identity on the decade when the island’s tourism boom actually began, which is either a bold act of authenticity or the hospitality industry’s most elaborate way of admitting nobody misses beige.
