Heavenly Mountain Resort

Spanning across Nevada and California, this ski resort is nothing short of heavenly. Situated on the Sierra Mountain Range, this mountain was fittingly referred to as “heavenly” by the Washoe and Paiute Indians as they found abundant game and a cool stream fed by large snowfields hundreds of years ago.

Averaging 360 inches of snow annually, Heavenly is one of America’s largest snowmaking systems. Yet, the mountain has fully leaned into its unearthly name, as it was the site of the death of singer and politician Sonny Bono after a ski accident in the late 90s.

Whether you’re into skiing or more of a hang-out-at-the-lodge type of person (no judgement here!), Heavenly can boast what many mountain resorts can’t: if you take the ski lift up in one state, you may just end up in another.
