The Warren Armory was built in 1842 as a drill hall and arsenal for the local militia, a Greek Revival fortress at the center of town where soldiers trained, weapons were stored, and civic gatherings convened for over a century. After World War II, the American Legion Post 15 bought the building from the state for ten dollars. Ten. Dollars. The Legion used it as their headquarters for decades, hosting veterans’ meetings, community dinners, and the occasional wedding reception. When the building fell into disrepair, the town of Warren acquired it and launched a slow, determined restoration effort to bring it back to civic life. The original wooden beams, arched windows, and imposing façade are still intact. Today, it hosts art shows, theater performances, farmers markets, and town meetings. One armory. One ten-dollar sale. One town that refused to let 180 years of history crumble into a parking lot.
