Albert Hall

Jaipur, India | C.1887

Icon AWA Official Place

Jaipur’s grandest Indo-Saracenic showpiece, Albert Hall Museum rises from Ram Niwas Garden like a palace that decided to major in art history. Completed in 1887 and named for the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), it was originally intended as a town hall until someone realized a building this ornate deserved a more dramatic purpose. Its arches and domes now house everything from miniature paintings to an Egyptian mummy, because why stop at one continent? The museum’s collection spans 5,000 years and includes a Persian garden carpet so intricate it took years to weave. By night, golden illumination makes the 19th-century sandstone glow like it’s auditioning for its own postcard, which, given Jaipur’s track record, it probably is.
