Lukács Baths
Bubbling deep beneath the heart of Budapest—also known as “the city of baths”—is nature’s hot tub: geothermal springs enriched with healing minerals.
Brighton, United Kingdom | C.1888
Before handheld hair dryers were invented, women and men had to get creative about styling wet hair. To dry it fully, some attached hoses to the exhaust end of vacuum cleaners, while others, like the clever French hairdresser Alexandre-Ferdinand Godefroy, patented a seat with a hood shaped attachment connected to a gas stove.
Godefroy’s hood dryer revolutionized hairdressing, and was widely copied and improved upon, in time becoming a staple of salons everywhere. Needless to note, they have evolved dramatically since being attached to Godefroy’s stove.
If you’re craving a more old-fashioned hairhelmeting experience, these chairs and all the hot air of gossip they’ve carried can still be found in choice salons across the world, including at this one in the stylish seaside town of Brighton, England.
