When Olympic champion Johnny Weissmuller recorded Tarzan’s legendary yell at this 1934 Art Deco pool, the acoustics were perfect—two floors of changing cabins and a glass ceiling created natural reverb. Two years later, Jacques Cousteau tested his first scuba apparatus in the same 33-meter basin, pioneering underwater exploration in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Architect Lucien Pollet borrowed decorators from transatlantic ocean liners to design the yellow-and-blue geometric mosaics.
