Dubbed the “Motor City” for its colossal role in the creation of the car industry, Detroit, Michigan is a city that truly reconfigured the way the world travels. Home to the automobile giants of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler the city is home to the first mass market assembly lines as well as the world’s first affordable cars that middle class Americans could afford. Wanting reasons to show off their cars, the city of Detroit boomed into a cultural hub where people could listen to newly created Motown music, see theatrical shows in a theater district almost as large as New York’s, or enjoy the vast cultural offerings of the city.
